Chateau Laforge
Saint Emilion Grand Cru

92 Points - VINOUS by Antonio Galloni

"The 2012 Laforge is another gorgeous wine from Jonathan Maltus. Nuanced and delineated in the glass, with superb mid-palate intensity, the 2012 is impeccable from start to finish. Sweet plum, cherry pit, slate and smoke open up in the glass. The 2012 is wonderfully energetic and centered, and offers lovely poise and balance. Readers can drink the 2012 now or cellar it for another decade, perhaps longer. Hints of mocha, sweet French oak and spices add a modern, racy sheen to the finish. The 2012 is 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc blended across the three main terroirs found in Saint-Emilion."

  • Technical Information

The estate was accumulated over time by the local blacksmith with vines appropriated in lieu of unpaid bills. Vinified by cult winemaker Jonathan Maltus, and pitched in Cru Classé country, the wine is a great expression of unfiltered old-vine Merlot. Its complexity and elegance is enhanced by being ripe, mouth-filing and lavishly rich.
